By evaporating water, the temperature of the panels also decreases, which results in a decrease in the temperature of the air passing through them. This cooled air can then be used to cool the stored product while maintaining its high relative humidity. Humidification can be used during outdoor air ventilation and during active cooling, if installed.
• Rack and pinion bars for damper control – used for power transmission to control intake and exhaust dampers. If linear servo drives are installed, rack and pinion bars are not used.

Every storekeeper knows that the stored product is living matter that generates its own heat due to respiration. Heat must be removed from the store and the stored product cooled to slow down biological processes and maintain its quality long-term.

The cooling process itself, although necessary, results in the greatest weight and quality losses. Whether cooling takes place using cooling units and evaporators or by ventilation using outside air, the stored material always dries out. The air used for cooling almost never has 100% relative humidity, and can therefore absorb more water in the form of water vapor during cooling. Water evaporates through the pores from the surface of the stored material during respiration, and by air exchange during cooling, it is removed from the storage area, causing weight loss. Water is "lost" either by condensation on coolers (so-called evaporators), or moist air is removed from the store through exhaust flaps during ventilation with outside air. Our aim is therefore to minimize the amount of "lost" water during cooling and thereby save significant money for storekeepers.

The use of humidification panels has a significant cooling effect. By evaporating water, the temperature of the panels decreases, which results in a decrease in the temperature of the air passing through them. This simple physical principle brings further significant savings to storers. This cooled air can then be used to cool the stored product while maintaining its high relative humidity!

Agroel began using humidification panels in many of its climate control systems. They are best applied in ventilated warehouses or those with combined cooling. Warm outdoor air, which under normal conditions would not be used for cooling, can be cooled by several degrees (depending on its relative humidity) after passing through the humidification panels and thus used for cooling! Cooling in this way is almost free compared to cooling using refrigeration units, which require high electrical input. The best combination is climate control equipment that has ventilation, cooling, and humidification units and can automatically optimize operation according to current outdoor and indoor climatic conditions.

Generally, products for which high air humidity has a positive effect on the quality of the stored product, especially on limiting softening and related weight and quality loss. This applies especially to potatoes, root vegetables, and apples. These individual products have their specific storage stages that must be observed during storage. Agroel automatic climate control systems already have built-in modes for individual storage phases and thus contribute to the successful storage of these products.

Agroel has developed an air humidification system that works without creating water droplets! The basis of this new principle of so-called adsorption humidification is the requirement to supply only as much water to the warehouse as can evaporate into the air.

Evaporation takes place on a special, porous material developed for this purpose, which is constantly saturated with water. Air passing through these humidification panels absorbs only as much water as it can hold. Thus, free water in the form of droplets, which would adhere to the stored material and cause storage diseases, cannot enter the warehouse space. Humidification panels in Agroel climate control systems operate with an efficiency of up to 95%!

The operation of such devices is very complex in terms of correct switching of relevant elements according to current conditions. Manual control is out of the question, as outdoor climatic conditions and warehouse conditions constantly change and the operation of the device must be continuously corrected. Therefore, Agroel standardly supplies climate control units equipped with automatic control with optimization of the operation of ventilation, cooling, and humidification elements.

Active cooling must be used wherever maintaining a constant temperature in the stored material cannot be ensured solely by ventilating with cool outdoor air. In such a case, the cooling system functions as an addition to the ventilation system and provides an alternative source of cold air in case it is not available outdoors.

It must be realized that cooled stored material has a large thermal capacity and therefore maintains its temperature for a certain period even with fluctuations in outdoor temperatures. It cannot therefore be said that every warehouse must be equipped with a cooling system, because outdoor temperatures may be temporarily unsuitable for ventilation. When deciding on the installation of a cooling system, we are guided mainly by these points:

• Required storage temperature
• Storage economics: For some products, cooling is economically unsustainable, for others it is a necessity in terms of maintaining quality.
• Storage season: Throughout the year, there are different outdoor climatic conditions, and thus different possibilities for ventilation with outdoor air.
